How to overcome ADHD when you’re studying / Why ADHD isn’t an excuse

Lessons from the Sessions is our weekly blog that gives you insight from what we’re coaching on in our coaching sessions.

Today we had a session with an AMAZING young person who finds it hard to concentrate on the videos she needs to watch to get ready for the SATs.

We do feel for her, we would’ve have a hard time with that too!

What we decided was that if ADHD is real, if it is a circumstance in her life, we have to find a way to work WITH it or AROUND it. It’s not an excuse. It’s just a matter of fact.

For her, we came up with reasonable schedule (with breaks!!!) along with a plan to get a fancy new notebook, highlighters and pens and make the most amazing notes and bullet points and what not to stay engaged (and to retain the information) while she is watching the videos.

Remember, excuses are for people who need them. If you want to reach your goals, you have to decide that you’re no longer the kind of person who tolerates excuses but rather sees them for what they are and gets stuff done anyway.
